My opinion on: Twitter ‘Header’

It’s been a day since Twitter released their new cover option, they call it “header”. It’s like Facebook’s cover but more than half of it’s size, at least for the web version. To be honest, after Goolge+ added this option i was expecting something similar from Twitter.

Of course some people would say it’s a facebook rip off, or that it’s too similar. But that’s where social networks are going, limited personalisation. It’s Facebook’s idea to give you very small space to show who you are, without ruining your whole page. Do you remember MySpace, they were giving too much freedom of changing things, this went bad, because not everyone understanded web design and user experience and they ended up having sparkling backgrounds and flashing links, which scared away every visitor. All though Twitter already had some of these options i think people used them right.

The best thing about the ‘Header’ is that you can turn it off, it’s entirely your choice to make. It’s not like Facebook’s updates where everyone starts b**ching around how they can’t live without the ‘old’ version. Giving freedom to users is a great thing, thank you Twitter.
